Detection |"The Most Prohibited Plastic Order" for 100 billion sets sail in the blue ocean

As more and more countries pay more attention to the problem of plastic pollution, in order to fight against white pollution, the global ban on plastics continues to heat up.

The global degradable plastic production capacity is mainly distributed in China, Western Europe and North America, and the industry concentration is not high. Although the development of biodegradable plastics in China started late, the speed of R&D and industrial production is relatively fast. In 2019, the production capacity has reached 617,000 tons, accounting for 45.3% of the world's total production capacity, leading Europe and the United States.

In January 2020, China issued the most stringent "plastic ban". The new version of the plastic restriction order takes three steps. According to the principle of "banning one batch, replacing one batch, and standardizing one batch", it will be divided into 2020, 2022, and 2025. In the three time periods of the year, the goal of the phased task of strengthening the treatment of plastic pollution was clearly defined.

Last week, TTS shared with you: Under the influence of the strictest "plastic ban" policy, China's paper-based materials and biodegradable plastics will become the new favorites of the industry.

Someone may ask: what kind of material can be called biodegradable plastic? To what extent is plastic degradable to be qualified and excellent? After all, the material is degradable or non-degradable. First, you cannot rely on the supplier’s verbal claim. Second, cannot figure out the degree of degradation by hand. Third, neither good nor bad can be seen with the naked eye. At this time, a professional and qualified laboratory is needed to test.

This is because China has already established a clear definition of degradable materials in GB/T 39514-2020 "Terms, Definitions and Labeling of Bio-based Materials".

The standard stipulates that biodegradation/biodegradation is the degradation of materials caused by the action of biologically active enzymes, which are gradually degraded by microorganisms or certain organisms as a source of nutrients, resulting in a decrease in relative molecular weight, quality loss, and physical properties, etc. And is finally decomposed into simpler compounds, minerals and inorganic salts of the elements contained, and a property of biological dead bodies.

Simply put: the laboratory will use different standard methods to test materials according to different requirements to confirm whether the materials are effectively degraded:

ISO 14855-1: 2012 applies to organic matter

 GB/T 19277. 1-2011 applies to organic matter

ASTM D5338-15 is suitable for plastic materials

Only items that meet the requirements of the test can be considered effective.

The most common test items are:

The degradation of the material under controlled composting conditions, the percentage of biodegradation of the sample is characterized by measuring the amount of CO2 produced during the experiment.

The test items of the same series are:

Heavy metal content

Biodegradability

Disintegration

Toxicity

At present, the demand for biodegradable plastics is mainly concentrated in the packaging field. What do you think?
